False color monitoring LUT for Sony cameras

False color is an exposure measuring tool that has been a part of a professional workflow for years, and it’s reserved for professional cameras, recorders, and monitors. With the added ability to load custom LUTs on Sony mirrorless cameras, it can now be used without any external tools.

False color divides the image into 10 color regions, where each color represents a specific tonal range. Purple and blues are for black and shadow areas, green is for the middle gray, pink for one stop above the middle grey and Caucasian skin tones, and yellow and red for highlights and white clipping.

Unlike photography exposure tools such as zebras, meters, and histograms, false color allows you to measure the exposure of all the elements on the screen, making it much more precise and easy to use. It can be also used for matching different shots and measuring contrast ratios between the subject and the background.

The false color LUT was developed using the Base version of Cinema Tools Slog3 LUT, and the exposure values are shown based on the REC709 image.
It is a part of our Slog3 Utility pack which features other useful monitoring LUTs and expands native camera functionality.
